This video interview with Alexander Chouljenko, Gabe Dough, Eric Herbst explains a research project that SIRF is funding at North Carolina State University that is exploring the ability to extract plasmalogens from marine organisms like sea squirts, bay scallops and ribbed muscles. Plasmalogens are said to have cognitive benefits that could be able to fight against cognitive diseases like Alzheimer’s. If this exploratory research is a success, then these marine organisms could be farmed with aquaculture for the biotech or the neutraceutical industries.
